A woman in her later 50’s who has some obstruction of her upper vision by excess upper eyelid skin and brow ptosis (age-related drooping of the eyebrows)

She is shown before and again 3 ½ months after bilateral upper eyelid blepharoplasty combined with browpexy.  With a brow “pexy,” the eyebrow are fixed to the orbital septum so they don’t drop further when the patient stands up.  .  They are not elevated as in a brow lift but it is a simpler procedure that some patients prefer.

A woman in her mid 50’s with a partial split of her right earlobe, which she attributes to wearing large hoop earrings.  She also sleeps with her earrings in place.  She is shown before and again, 6 months after earlobe lift/repair in the office under local.

A woman in her early 20s with a complete split of her left earlobe.  By history, she did sleep with her earrings in.  She is shown before and again, 5 months.

A woman in her early 50s with a partial split of her left ear which may be due to sleeping with earrings in place.  She is shown before and again, 3 months after repair in the office. Scars typically are at their reddest and thickest 6 weeks after the repair, and then soften and fade over the next 2 years.  At three months the earlobe is typically ready to be re-pierced.  I recommend that my patients start topical silicone at 6 weeks to help with scar maturation.

A woman in her later 20s who has bilateral partial splitting of her earlobes.  After discussion, she has had a history of redness and irritation which is typical for a nickel allergy.  She is getting married and wants to be able to wear earrings for her wedding.  She is shown before and again, 4 months after repair.  Scars are typically reddest and thickest at 6 weeks and then soften and fade over the next 2 years.  I have patients use topical silicone after the first 6 weeks to speed the scar maturation.  I also recommend in cases such as this that patients obtain titanium earrings for the re-piercing.

A retired nursing instructor in her mid 80’s with a split of her right ear and drooping of both ears.  She is shown before and again, 3 months after a bilateral ear lobe lift/repair. She is thrilled to have more youthful appearing ears as well as a correction of her split.  We will recommend that she remove her earrings at night while sleeping to prevent the recurrence of the split.

A nurse in her early 20s feels that her earlobes are too large for her ears and would like to have them reduced.  She is shown before and again, 3 months after a bilateral earlobe lift/reduction.

A woman in her late 50s with a large defect in her upper lip following Mohs excision of basal cell carcinoma.  The defect is a little too large to be easily closed with a flap from the medial cheek.  She is shown just after Mohs and again, 10 months after a full-thickness skin graft from her neck skin just above the collarbone “supraclavicular”.  She has a reasonable result after surgery and is not noticed from a conversational distance. It developed some mild “post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation”, ie., it became a little darker in the sun.  But is easily covered with a little makeup.

A man in his early 80s was shown just after Mohs surgery for the removal of a squamous cell skin cancer in his right ear.  He is shown again, 6 weeks after a reduction in otoplasty.  His ear is re-shaped and made smaller- repairing the defect and restoring a normal contour of the ear.  Even though the ear is now smaller, it is not deformed because it has a normal contour and we don’t look at both ears at the same time.  He passes the “little girl test”.  The little boys and girls don’t poke their mother and ask “what happened to that man” ie, he doesn’t look deformed.
