Which Tummy Tuck is Right for You?

Are you dealing with excess skin and fat or weakened abdominal muscles due to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations? Board certified Boston plastic surgeon Dr. Hall offers tummy tuck surgery to correct these issues. There are multiple types of tummy tucks to address different problems. Read on to learn about these different options and which one is right for you.

Full Tummy Tuck

Also called a traditional tummy tuck, the full tummy tuck addresses the areas above and below the belly button. During this procedure, a horizontal incision between the hip bones and around the belly button are made. The abdominal muscles are tightened and excess skin is removed. Liposuction may be used to help further contour the area. The belly button is then repositioned and incisions are closed. Recovery for a full tummy tuck takes about two weeks.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck treats the area below the belly button and is meant for slender patients who have a small amount of excess skin and fat on their abdomen. A small horizontal incision is made between the hip bones. Any underlying muscles are tightened and excess skin removed. Liposuction can also be used to remove any excess fat before incisions are closed. Recovery takes about a week.

Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended tummy tuck is a more extensive version of the full tummy tuck. This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the tummy, hips, and sides of the lower back. A horizontal incision will be made across the lower belly and around the hips. A vertical incision may also be necessary. These incisions allow a wider area to be treated and more tissue to be removed. Liposuction is used to reduce excess fat and the belly button is also repositioned before incisions are closed. Recovery commonly takes a few weeks.
