What to Expect After Liposuction

By on January 28, 2019 under Uncategorized

Liposuction is a highly popular procedure among both men and women. That’s because no one is safe from stubborn fat! A large amount of stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise can hide your contour and hurt your confidence. With liposuction, the fat cells are removed and the body is sculpted. If you’re considering liposuction, you likely have questions about what happens after. Here are some of the most common questions regarding what to expect after treatment:

How much pain will I be in?

There will be no pain during the liposuction procedure process, thanks to the use of local or general anesthesia. But when the medication wears off, you can expect some discomfort in the treatment area. This will feel like a bruise and will definitely be noticeable, but completely manageable. Dr. Hall will make sure you are prescribed pain medication to help you with the first few days. With medication and the use of an ice pack, the pain should not be severe, and you should be able to distract yourself with other activities while you heal like watching TV and reading.

Will there be scarring?

During the liposuction procedure, the incisions are typically less than a centimeter long. Dr. Hall also makes sure to place these incisions in well concealed areas and in the natural creases of the body. Therefore, noticeable scarring is very minimal and will continue to fade with time.

When will I see results?

During the liposuction process, a cannula is used in a back and forth motion to break up fat cells. This can also result in swelling after the procedure that will hide your true results. The majority of this swelling will diminish in the first several months, allowing you to start seeing results. However, it is not uncommon for the last bit of swelling to last for up to a year, so it’s important to be patient during the healing process.

Will the fat grow back?

Many patients are under the impression that when they gain weight, they are gaining fat cells. However, this is not the case. When you gain weight, your existing fat cells expand. So, when fat cells are removed during the liposuction process, they cannot grow back, but your untreated fat cells can still expand. The best way to ensure long-lasting results after liposuction is to maintain your healthy weight with the right diet and regular exercise.
