Know Your Breast Implant Options

Are you unhappy with the shape or size of your breasts? If so, you may benefit from a breast augmentation procedure. However, it is important to take the time to learn about this procedure and your implant options prior to your consultation appointment so that you have a clear vision of your aesthetic goals.

Breast Implant Choices

When it comes to breast implants, there are many things to consider. The first decision is what type of implant you want: saline or silicone. Both types have benefits and drawbacks, so it’s important to understand the differences before making a decision.

Saline implants are filled with a salt water solution, while silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel. Saline implants are less expensive and have a shorter surgery time, but they can sometimes be more visible and feel less natural than silicone implants. Silicone implants are more expensive and have a longer surgery time, but they feel more natural and are less likely to ripple.

At our office we also offer the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant, which gives you the natural look and feel you desire, with the advantages over silicone gel implants. They are filled with only saline, but has an internal supporting structure for peace of mind.

Other Breast Implant Options to Consider

Along with the filling type of your implant, there are also other choices that you should consider. Dr. Hall will help you choose the right implant for you. However, before your consultation it is smart to research the different implant choices so you have an idea of what your desired outcomes are.

Implant Shape

Both saline and silicone gel implants are usually round,  though some may be available in round and shaped options. Round implants will help patients achieve a fuller appearance in the upper part of their breast, while shaped implants achieve a gently sloping appearance. Both options can appear natural with the skilled hand Dr. Hall.

Implant Profile

The profile of a breast implant refers to how much an implant projects forward from the chest wall when standing. When it comes to implant profile, patients with a more petite frame often require a higher profile to achieve the desired size increase. Dr. Hall will speak with you regarding your implant profile desires during your consultation.

Implant Texture

Breast implants are offered as smooth or textured. Texture on a shaped implant can be helpful to prevent the implant from flipping or turning. Most patients, however, benefit from smooth implants which offer beautiful, natural-looking and feeling results.

Implant Size

Breast implant sizes generally range from about 150cc to 800cc or larger. In many cases, patients will need a different sized implant for each breast, as both breasts are rarely identical in size. This will help to achieve the symmetrical breasts you desire. Dr. Hall will help you choose a breast implant size that aligns with your personal goals and your existing breast size.
