A woman in her early 50’s who gets Botox with us every 3 months is shown before and again, 4 weeks after 100 units of Daxxify. She has previously had Botox ( and had it 3 months before) but prefers the early results with Daxxify Studies are showing that 93% of patients who have previously had Botox prefer their Daxxify result at 2 weeks.
She has also been told that her skin looks better which is a result that many patients have mentioned but we are not yet sure how Daxxify is causing this.
On resting view before and after, we can see that she has a few millimeters of eyebrow elevation after the Daxxify. With Daxxify we target the muscles that cause frowning more directly ( corrugator muscles) and avoid weakening the lower frontalis muscles ( which are the only elevator of the brows and can give unnatural shape to the brows if overtreated, ie Dr. Spock brows or “Mcdonald’s arches” at rest or with activity. It is also important to treat the procerus muscle which can pull down the brow when active.
When she actively raises her brows she has a normal look. Some patients are worried that Daxxify hasn’t worked because they can still elevate their brows normally and have lines with activity in the forehead. And we could treat the forehead with Daxxify but didn’t with her to prevent a funny shape to the brows. After reviewing the results she prefers the natural look of the Daxxify and does not want a frozen forehead with unnatural brow position and loss of the brow elevation that we have achieved
The smiling view is also dramatic. She has a much stronger result in the crow’s feet area (lateral orbicularis muscles) than I have been able to achieve with Botos, and the studies suggest that this effect with Daxxify should be good for 5 months as opposed to Botox where the maximum duration we can typically achieve is 3 months.
With 4 months of experience with Daxxify, most of my patients prefer it over Botox. It is dramatically better in the corrugator area ( “ the 11’s”) and in the lateral orbicularis (“crow’s feet”). The results are much stronger at 2 weeks, and studies demonstrate that the results for them should be 2 months longer. Especially for my patients who get treated every 3 months with Botox, as the added duration of Daxxify that expect is even more important. For my patients who are mainly focused on the forehead lines and have been happy with the Botox treatment that we have mapped out in the forehead then I have been staying with the Botox for them for now, especially if they do not have strong corrugator and lateral orbicularis activity.
